Typical for 19th century Bordeaux wines, blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah (which is quite specific for Rhone Valley), proof once again it’s full exuberance. Intense aromas of ripe black and red fruits (from Merlot and Cabernet), are in perfect harmony with dark chocolate and lavender aromas (from Syrah). Aging in oak, not only gives one more aromatic layer to wine complexity but has a quite positive influence on its overall balance.

The grapes for this wine was picked a bit later than usual. The maceration was done for three days. After that, the fermentation was started in stainless steel barrels. Then, after 30% fermentation, the wine was put into new barrels of French oak, where the wine was aged for 10 months. Distinct aromas of jasmine, ripe green apple, and floral nose. A lovely development of honey, vanilla, and oak on the palate. Beautifully structured.

On the west coast of Istria, grapes are grown on “terra rossa”, red soil. While Santa Lucija is “breathing” the white Istrian soil, the mother of extraordinary wines and above all the unique Buje Malvazija. From this “white” soil comes Franković wine selection. Masculine and exotic, finely chiseled with a wild edge to it, impressive acidic structure and palpable tannins – the vineyard Saybritz yield vinous personalities that could only come into being on the Eisenberg. The grapes fermented on the skins for three weeks in open wooden casks, spontaneously with their native yeasts. After pressing, the wine was barrelled in 500-litre and 1600-liter wooden casks for maturing.

  • Beef
  • Casserol
  • Game meat
  • Meat risotto

If you stand on the Eisenberg and gaze off into the distance, in addition to next-door neighbor Hungary you can also see clear across the Steiermark to Slovenia. It is the passion for the distinctive and remarkable terroir of the Eisenberg in Südburgenland that drives Matthias Krön and Markus Bach. On this extraordinary hillside with its old grapevines growing in steeply sloped vineyard sites, unique wines are created. The vineyard Saybritz lies on a sharply-falling parcel of land on the southwestern slope of the Eisenberg. The soils in this site feature slate as well as loam and rocky brown earth. Starting high atop the Eisenberg, it follows the hillside down to the eponymous village. Here there flourishes a totally unique microclimate: sunny with constant ventilation. The grapes for our  Blaufränkisch Saybritz are harvested exclusively from this exceptional site on the Eisenberg, from vines up to sixty years of age.

The color is quite intense reminiscent of gold. The nose is so complex, varied and beautifully fresh, full of life. On the palate fine layers of butter, honey, wildflowers, and orange peel all complemented with gentle caramel and butterscotch notes. Winery Škegro Winery
Country BIH
Region Herzegovina-Neretva
Variety Alicante Bouschet, Blatina, Gamay
Category Red wines
Bottle size 0.75 L
Alcohol 13.5 %
  • Black currant
  • Dark Chocolate
  • Herbs
  • Wild strawberries

Red Krš is made from 85% Blatina. The profile completes the Alicante Bouschet, which we attribute, among other things, to the fascinating depths of purple-color. Gamay helps accentuate the characteristic Blatina expression of fruitiness. A very thoughtfully shaped wine in which Blatina shows its character much easier. Over time, this wine gets earthy notes that are very often associated with this variety.

  • Beef
  • Lamb
  • Rabbit
  • Steak

Once upon a time, every household in Herzegovina had their own vineyard planted with Žilavka, Blatina, and other autochthonous varieties. The rulers and masters changed, wars happened and the state borders changed, but the wine, remained, and it is a part of the Herzegovinian past, present, and future. This is how the story of Škegro family begins. A story where tradition has been passed from knee to knee to eventually become something that the whole family enjoys doing. Modern approach to traditional, love for vineyards and wine, and a strong desire to offer the spirit of Hercegovina in full glory. Plenty of sunshine, solid stone and healthy ecological footprint, together with the centuries-old tradition, gives top quality wines.
