Bosnian and Herzegovinian Wine

Bosnia is not known for its rich and diverse wine regions, but Herzegovina is home to some crucial indigenous grape varieties, Žilavka, Blatina, and Trnjak. Bosnian wine is still a hidden secret, although more and more wineries are rediscovering the natural potential for wine growing in Bosnia. Herzegovina proves to be an essential wine-making region.

Bosnian and Herzegovinian Wine regions and grape varieties

The best Herzegovinian wines are produced in Mostar and Trebinje areas. You can buy Bosnian and Herzegovinian wine online, enjoying the unique flavors of indigenous and international varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Chardonnay. There is also plenty of Vranac, Alicante Bouschet, Plavac Mali, Smederevka, Bena, and Krkošija. The variety of Žilavka gives quality wines, while premium quality wines are produced from grapes grown at selected locations (vineyards), very often with the addition of 15% of Krkošija and Bena, which are also autochthonous grape varieties of the region of Herzegovina. Blatina grows exclusively in the Mostar area in Herzegovina. Blatina has a dark ruby red color, particular and characteristic aroma, and a round and harmonious taste. It has a lovely freshness for a southern wine. Trnjak started to gain popularity in recent years as it proves to be the ideal grape for Herzegovina's balanced, full-bodied red wines. You can find a wide range of options for the best Bosnian and Herzegovinian wines. From light, crisp whites and gentle reds to structured aromatic whites and full-bodied red wines. Many Herzegovinian wineries are committed to producing wines of high quality that respect the traditional style and yet explore modern wine-making techniques.
