Groszer Wein Blaufränkisch Eisenberg DAC 2017

- +
$16.99

If you stand on the Eisenberg and gaze off into the distance, in addition to next-door neighbor Hungary you can also see clear across the Steiermark to Slovenia. It is the passion for the distinctive and remarkable terroir of the Eisenberg in Südburgenland that drives Matthias Krön and Markus Bach. On this extraordinary hillside with its old grapevines growing in steeply sloped vineyard sites, unique wines are created. The grapes for this red wine come from the Eisenberg and the Königsberg. The slate soils of the former site bring spice to the blend, while the clay of the latter gives the wine its luxuriant richness. Vinified as a monovarietal, this wine offers a fantastic expression of Eisenberg terroir.

Fresh, with pithy acidity and powerful tannins, the wine exudes aromas of sour cherry, plum, and blackberry, accented with spicy notes of black pepper. On the palate, our Blaufränkisch exhibits excellent structure, with the spiciness that is so typical to the Eisenberg, along with notes of dark fruit. Nicely integrated acidity, densely concentrated but already softened tannin–and once more this freshness, which leads into a finish that inspires the next sip
