Vinho Verde D.O.C. 2017

In Portuguese, Cinco Quinta means “Five Estates,” which is appropriate for this winery as grapes for their wines are sourced from five family-owned vineyard properties all located near the city of Vizela. In 1990, José Borges built the Cinco Quintas winery and produced a small quantity of his wines. The freshness comes from the characteristics of the grapes, the granite soils, but also from the mild temperatures due to the moderate influence of the Atlantic Ocean. In 2014 Cinco Quintas launched the “Avicella” line of Vinho Verde wines, balancing the winemaking traditions of their ancestors with modern winemaking technology and methods. The Vinho Verde D.O.C. This wine is made of two tradition Portuguese white varietals:  60% Alvarinho, 40% Trajadura. These grapes come from estate vineyards.

Visually, this wine has a light straw color and is clear and vibrant. On the nose, the Alvarinho contributes powerful floral aromatics while the Trajadura contributes stone fruit and pear aromatics. On the palate, the wine is fresh, full-bodied, with a brilliant and long finish. While the Alvarinho brings strong acidity to the wine, the lower acidity of the Trajadura results in a smooth and elegant white wine.
